Superior Court and County Commissioners Building:

The restoration of the Superior Court and County Commissioners Building is the final piece of the Courthouse Complex Project.  The Salem Partnership was instrumental in advocating for keeping all of the Courts in downtown Salem.  The J. Michael Ruane Judicial Center, houses the District Court and Superior Court. The Family and Probate Court opened in 2017.

As part of the new Court construction, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts agreed to transfer the former District Court and the Superior Court/County Commissioners Building to the Salem Redevelopment Authority.  The SRA in turn would conduct a Request for Proposal (RFP) process seeking developers interested in redeveloping the former court buildings.

The former District Court building was demolished and construction is complete on a mixed-use building containing high-end residential condominiums and retail space on the first floor.

The Salem Redevelopment Authority received proposals from three (3) development teams for the redevelopment of the Superior Court/County Commissioners Building/City-owned crescent shape lot. The SRA named Winn Development as the preferred developer. Winn Development is currently working with City Boards to permit a residential building on the Crescent Lot.
