Early in 2008, the city of Salem Planning and Community Development Department and The Salem Partnership agreed to collaborate on a quarterly newsletter on economic growth initiatives in Salem. Listed below are the newsletters with the most recent first.
In the summer of 2010 Salem welcomed a growing variety of new businesses including a coffee shop, a toy store, a hand full of restaurants, and an exciting new transportation option. In the winter 2010 newsletter, Mayor Driscoll notes that economic growth moves forward in Salem despite the global economic downturn. The focus of the 6th issue of the newsletter is the major changes taking place on Bridge Street at Boston Street all the way to the Salem/Beverly Bridge. A new senior center is planned for the corner of Bridge and Boston Street. The courts complex is on budget and on schedule. There is information on a new initiative - an MBTA parking garage at the train station. There is an update on the Old Salem Jail project which is expected to be completed this spring. Highway improvements and the causeway park project complete all of the economic development initiatives that are taking place on just this one street in the city.
